Thanks for making your MacQuarium. I came across the MacQuarium in MacAddict a few years back and knew I had to make one when I had time. Well, I made one along with a web site http://www2.whidbey.net/makdurk/ and even got into October 2000 issue of MacAddict in the "You Know Your A Mac Addict When..." section...I have had a gold fish and 2 algae eaters in mine for 3 months one of the algae eaters recently died possible lack of food. I'll be adding a beta this week...his name will be Cube. Thanks for the inspiration. I will be making several variations in the summers to come...Swim Different
practice first with smaller tanks it will help you get the practice you need to work with caulk try incorperating the filter system out side tank to give you more water volume ie healthier fish
It is very difficult to keep fish alive in such a small tank. If you're no pro in fishkeeping, only put an apple snail or two in your macquarium. If you really want fish, buy some that are made of glass or plastic. If you know you'll hang yourself if you don't have any live fish in your macquarium, only buy three or four white cloud minnows or zebrafish (NO GOLDFISH UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES. THEY WILL ONLY DIE.) but if you can't keep them alive *don't* buy more. Switch to glass fish. The secret to keeping fish alive in a tank like this is changing at least 50% water every single darn week. And don't forget to dechlorinate the water before adding it to your tank. More information on fish is available in books or your favourite fishy website (like http://www.thekrib.com/).
I made a MacQuarium out of an SE/30... It's great. I've had a fish in it for over a year and I just bought another... I use the Logic board for a backdrop for a more computery feel... Yours might have died because of stuff you put in the tank or if the glue didn't completely die. I have an Algae Eater (the one that's been there for a year) and I just put in a beta... They both seem happy. I found a light that fits but the bulb died right away. If you e-mail me I may be able to find one for your tanka nd we can work out a payment deal. Don't give up, just find less rowdy fish...
i've got a mac plus,i'm going to fix it,too. no fishtank. i don't even like fish. what i really hate is "vertical line disease" which is what me Mac+ has. i shall fix this! NO FISH!
Hey, thats pretty cool... come on and finish it :-) http://macquarium.seltzer.org
I think you should try again with less active fish.
Hey, I just started my own Macquarium, and will be using an old Mac Plus. I will be creating a website soon with lots of pics. Will be looking for suggestion on material for the tank. Glass vs. lexan etc...
hey i saw the mac aquarium and wanted u send me a pic of it.. i might wanna buy it since u dont like it.. make some modifications and then give it to my sis
i need help on getting rid of hair alge in fishtanks i got a 100 gallon.with a real rock back round.i got 6 bulbs on did alot of water changes but still grows back any comments any body
Great idea for making use of a DOA MacPlus, although--considering how much fun and usefulness those old MPs were, making it into a fishtank seems to me to be analogous to finding out your favorite uncle has died, and making a floor lamp out of him.
I just want to say hallo to you,and please if anyone know what means word ~manot~ because manot is my familyname. By!
Thanks for your advice, Matt. Just looked at your site; very nice and tight. Something to aspire to.
Hei du forstr nok ikke dette du nei!! Hi I am Marthe From Norway! Just wanted to say hello!
Great job on the site, the construction photos are helpful. I just got the glass cut for my macquarium. I wonder what kind of sealant you used, your fish passed on so quickly. Also, you cannot use any soap, windex, or other cleaners on the tank!! You're not a PC user, so you're not used to doing things the hard way!
Thoroughly enjoyed the "Diary of a MacTank"! One thing you never explained tho - what happened between the honeymoon and a year later when you finished up the Diary????? LOL. Dust that thing off and have another go at it - it'll work and I will be looking for a photo of it! I can't make one - I am still using my old Mac!!!!

We replaced our broken Mac Plusses with G3's. I was thinking we could turn all of the old Mac Plusses into aquariums and connect them together with plexiglass tubes. That way they could still use them AND keep them networked at the same time.
Very nice site. Please visit Madame Tussauds Wax Museum, UK, London (http://planeta.dataforce.net/mt/index.html)
Matt, I liked the fish tank thing, two changes I would do, a smaller air stone, and two small glass plates on the top, one on the rear part of the tank, so the fish don't "trip" any more, and one in the front so they don't do the back flip into your potted plant, also, try a snail or pocosamus fish to keep the alge down, I'll do mine up by summer an let you know on how it goes.
Matt, I like the idea for a MacQuarium. Don't let it go to waste on the top shelve! In general your page is fun, fast and above all very entertaining. Keep up the good (Apple) work! Greetings from the Netherlands.
really nice front page looking like the mac desktop we all know and love. Get those pics of the MacAquarium up on the site pleeeease.
i think it would be realy cool to have a mac tank, when mine expiers,i will refer to this page for info on how to transform it.
Pretty cool record of your adventure, I'm, building myself a macquarium. I have a Mac Plus that I've already unscrewed and cut. Just waiting for the weekend for the glass, and wood. My shell has signatures in the back of people who I guess designed the thing. Anyway I would like to talk to you further. AOL IM Leland30 ICQ# 24880834
If a hog has laryngitis, is it disgruntled?
this is going to be the coolest fish tank yet.
This is great i work at my high school and have hear about this and we have a few old mac's waiting to be turned in to fish tanks
Matt, I think your web page is done very well. You are such a genius. I also appreciate how much time you give to the chamber. What goes around comes around. God remembers all the unremembered acts of kindness.
Great site! Can't wait to see those three Cohens in the fountain (Hag Purim Sameach!) Luv, The S-Bs
Excellent site. I've had my Macquarium (I prefer the Highland Scots spelling, i.e., with the lower-case 'q' within Macquarium. A lowlander would use a capital q) since 1997. I also put mine together during Christmas holidays in 1996. Presently mine has two aquatic frogs.
I set up my own Macquarium two days ago and all is well.

Hey! I'm terribly sorry, but I forgot to mention that I love your page, it's really great!
For god sakes, man, ship me your MacQuarium! Send me an Email about how much it weighs, what it's dimensions are. I'll send an empty box with packing material and a "fragile-class" shipping sticker adressed to me. I'll pay for the 'Quarium. I'll pre-pay sll shipping costs, just give me the info! It would be cool of you to send the air pump, too (which I will pay for). But if you can't bear to part with it, I'll understand :^). I hope this next part works...
I am searching for other Pappenberger's who moved to the USA or have relatives in the USA. Will answer all serious e mail
The way I learned it (30 or soyears ago) was that reality is for those people who can't handle drugs.
There's one excellent way to redeem what would have otherwise been a worthless waste of plastic, even back when they were still trying to sell those for $5,000 apiece.
Please, Matt, you must not give up your quest. The Fish Tank is inspirational!
Hi Daddy To Be!!!!! I am so excited for you and Heidi. Paige is doing great, getting bigger and more fun each day. I can not even begin to tell you how much fun it is being a MOM or a DAD. Come-on mate, get the tank going again, with new fish and a small camera strapped to it's back. FISHCAM, with a new angle. Gonna try it myself, got plenty of spare SE's, now where did I leave that fish-sized digi-cam? Stu
Thanks so much for all your help in setting up my new computer. You sure know your stuff! And the price is so reasonable.
Comments for the world: Well, maybe they're not for the world, but I thought I'd drop in to say "hi." Nice load time on the pages! Well constructed site. By the way, might want to check the "Personal" page; I got a "file not found." I liked the others very much. Presently taking notes... ...so keep up the good work! Dane ELS Language Centers

You probably don't want to visit my site, I may turn out to be competition. Keep up the good work, and PLEASE keep the Tigger and MacQuarium pages updated. Love it. BTW, can you add the latest sermons to Heidi's page? That Truman Show one was cool. Looking forward to many more. Thanks 4 everything. Bye now. ------------------------------------ Danny Silverman Terrestrial Concepts "I think, therefore iMac."

Hello Matt and Heidi - We miss you so much at NKU! Come back ... I'll give you an UltraSPARC running Apache. :)
Love the new site - glad to see you got it up so soon!
You shouldn't let the tank sit there like that!!! Fix it up and then have some fish in it. A Mac user can't give up!

Matt, what a great story! I've had projects go like that - in fact, a lot of them didn't get as far as you got... But, you'll think of something.

Man you're funny dude - and you tell a good story. One thing though... couldn't you have spared a few innocent fish if you had a removeable screen on the top of the tank? Hmmm. Sounds like a need for better alpha testing. Hey, how about turning the tank into a MacBank? Just imagine how many pennies it could hold. Cheers. Oh and if anyone wants to check out my website (music, literature and entertainment), e-mail me for the site address - it's 3a.m. and I can't remember the new address. Yeah I guess that's kinda lame. 8)
